Since it is clearly Spring now, it is once again farmers market season.  Many of us have our one or two favorites, but exploring new farmers markets can make for a great day trip!

Here is an area list of farmers markets I composed from this recent online forum and some google searches  (Just double check dates and locations before driving two hours)   :)

Virginia Beach Farmers Market - “In Virginia Beach, there’s a farmer’s market at the corner of Princess Anne Rd. and Dam Neck Rd. It’s been there for a long time, and is fairly large with many different little shops. Go on a Friday night during the warmer months, and you’ll be in for a musical treat. In the parking lot, many groups of musicians form impromptu groups. Most play bluegrass or country music, but it is fun just to walk around and listen to the music while shopping at the markets…”  Most merchants are open from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday and Noon – 4:00 p.m. Sunday

Baltimore Farmers Market - Sunday AMs 7am-Noon

Charlottesville City Market -  ”Only 2 or so hours away and the Saturday morning city market has over 100 vendors. There’s produce, meat, cheese, crafts, wine, popsicles, tacos, bread/baked good, saltenas, samosas, pickles etc etc. Its insane. A little overwhelming, actually. But definitely something to revolve a day trip around. Its twice the size of any market I’ve been to in the DC suburbs.  My favorite veggie vendors are Radical Roots, Waterpenny, Whisper Hill, Appalachia, and Broadhead Mountain”

Lancaster PA Central Market - Open Tuesdays and Fridays, 6:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Saturdays, 6:00 am to 2:00 pm year-round – The countries oldest continuously operating farmers market

Dutch County Farmers Market – In Laurel MD, just outside Silver Springs. Thursday 9am-6pm, Friday 9am- 8pm, Saturday 8am-3pm

Cox Farms – In Centerville, VA – this one is an actual farm with a market, not the other way around

Central Market - In York, PA

Bird in Hand Farmers MArket - Near Lancaster, PA

Brown’s Orchards - Farm with a Market in Loganville and Emigsville, PA

Pennsylvania Dutch Farmers Market - in Annapolis MD – “The Pennsylvania Dutch Farmer’s Market, known locally as the “Amish Market”, is located in the 290,000 sq ft. Annapolis Harbour Center in historic Annapolis, MD. However, all of the Amish merchants are from Lancaster PA, the heart of PA Dutch Country.”

The Four Miles Run Farmers and Artisans Market – Alexandria, VA – “The Four Mile Run Farmers and Artisans Market (Alexandria, Virginia 22305) brings fresh, nutritious food to people of all income levels, provide an opportunity for local artisans and producers of goods to bring their wares to market, strive to reflect the diversity of the community, and improve the quality of life for Arlandria residents and visitors.  It is part of an overall vision to expand and improve Four Mile Run park and the surrounding neighborhood.” Sundays 8am-1pm
